Why Choose Bota?

Just to give you a quick explanation for our choice of name (BOTA)…

The first, and most obvious reason, is because it contains the first two initials of our name (‘Bo’ and ‘Tanya’) thus “BO-TA.” As a Spanish twist I (Tanya) come from a Spanish Background. BOTA is the Spanish word for “boot.” Because of that, we call our workouts “BOTA CAMP.”

These are all very neat, but our purpose for choosing the name BOTA goes far deeper than this….

BOTA is a word that encompasses the mission and philosophy we desire to bring to the Finger Lakes region. BOTA is a Swedish word that means: “to cure; to heal; to restore to good health; to relieve from a disease.” That is exactly the kind of mission and purpose we want to be a part of! We think having fun and challenging workouts is awesome, but ultimately we desire to restore health to those we serve!

BOTA also serves as an acronym that describes the kind of training, nutrition, and lifestyle approach/philosophy that we believe is absolutely crucial in order to accomplish and maintain profound life transformation:

BALANCE

Most people fail to achieve the results they desire because they place far too much emphasis on some things and not enough on others. For example, they may work-out like a maniac but neglect their nutrition—there must be a balance between the two. The same thing could be said of work, play, family time, and/or spiritual life. When work becomes more important than time with your family, an imbalance is created and ultimately everyone will suffer. A holistic and balanced approach to health and weight-loss is absolutely crucial in order to develop sustainable results and transformation.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.” ~Matthew 23:23

OPTIMISM

I believe it was a blind and deaf Helen Keller who said: “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” Those who believe they will succeed WILL and those who do not believe WILL NOT—optimism and pessimism are both like self-fulfilling prophecies. Because our attitudes about life are formed as a direct consequence of our personal worldview and life experience, we believe that hope, motivation, and even perspiration occur as a direct result of “INSPIRATION” and “EDUCATION.” Therefore we seek to inspire those we serve by our own life example as well as by highlighting the successes of those who participate in our programs. In addition, we emphasize an educational approach to exercise and nutrition. We don’t want to just tell people “what” to do, but “why” they should do it. “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime!”

While we have found that one-on-one personal training is a very effective and valuable resource, there is still nothing that can quite compare to the TEAM experience of working alongside others with similar goals and pursuits.
We believe that nothing motivates and inspires you to push beyond your normal limits like training with a group of individuals who have (or had in the past) similar struggles and obstacles to overcome. BOTA camp is not just a workout; it is a family and TEAM!

“Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up….And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. ACCOUNTABILITY

Accountability is one of the most important elements of any health and weight loss program. Every BOTA FITNESS program is specifically designed to implement accountability between trainer and client when it comes exercise and nutrition. Everyone participating in a BOTA FITNESS program will be expected to report specific eating and exercise behaviors to their trainer on a regular basis. Assessments of weight, body fat %, fitness, and circumferences are checked regularly to ensure that your BOTA program is getting the kinds of results you desire as well as to facilitate accountability. When you have to report your eating and exercise habits to someone else, you feel a level of pressure and motivation that begin to change how you think and behave. As these habits become more and more “natural/habitual” accountability may eventually be slackened and even completely withdrawn. Ultimately, the most important kind of accountability is the kind you have to yourself! BOTA FITNESS trainers utilize accountability not only in the form of natural and healthy consequences, but in the form of encouragement and motivation.
